Kemi Badenoch, Robert Jenrick, James Cleverly and Tom Tugendhat at the Conservative Party Conference
The contest to decide who should be the next leader of the Conservative Party is underway, with just three c andidates remaining in contention.
Tom Tugendhatwas kicked out of the contest on Tuesday afternoon, October 8, after failing to secure enough support from MPs.
Ahead of the next round of voting on Wednesday evening, in which one more candidate will be knocked out, general sentiment appears that James Cleverly currently has the most momentum of the remaining candidates.
The Shadow Home Secretary topped the vote with 39 colleagues backing him, followed by former frontrunner Robert Jenrick on 31 and Shadow Housing Secretary Kemi Badenoch on 30. Mr Tugendhat secured the backing of 20 MPs.
MPs will vote again on Wednesday and the final two will then have their fate decided by the wider Conservative Party membership before the winner is announced after the late October budget.

Conservative leadership battle timetable
Nominations opened on July 24 at 7pm and closed on July 29 at 7.30pm. Each candidate needed the backing of 10 MPs to secure their place on the ballot.
In September, the candidates were whittled down to four, each of whom appealed to party members during the Conservative Party conference.
MPs will then vote to select the final two candidates. A final round of votes will then take place online – with party members voting for who will become leader by October 31.
The winner will be announced on Saturday, November 2.
