The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand said the Cessna Caravan C208B aircraft, operated by Thai Flying Service Company, departed Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport at 2:46 p.m. local time. Air traffic control lost radio and radar contact with the plane 11 minutes later, when it was estimated to be 35 kilometers southeast of the airport.
All nine people on board were reported dead. Rescuers found no survivors at the crash site, a mangrove swamp in Chachoengsao province, about 40km from the airport.
A total of seven passengers and two pilots were on board the plane. After about an hour of searching, rescuers found severely damaged body parts in the rugged swampy terrain, a provincial government spokesman said.
The names of those on board have not been released, but the spokesman said they included five tourists from Hong Kong, two female Thai crew members, a Thai pilot and a Thai co-pilot.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
