Stratford LIVE: Police shut down high street after brawl results in triple stabbing_L

Broadway in Stratford, London was closed in both directions by police amid unconfirmed reports of a stabbing incident.

The High Street in Stratford was shut down due to a police incident.

Three people have been stabbed and another injured after a brawl in Stratford Broadway in the early hours of Friday, with a total of four taken to hospital.

A Met Police statement said: “Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service. “Four men sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment.

“Three men – aged 22, 32 and 36 – were believed to have stab wounds. Their injuries have all been assessed as non-life threatening and non-life changing. A fourth man – aged 26 – was believed to have an injury to his jaw. His condition has also been assessed as non-life threatening and non-life changing.”

One person has been arrested so far, with further urgent enquiries are ongoing.

The road is shut in both directions near Stratford Bus Station between A118 Great Eastern Road and A112 Tramway Avenue. Several buses have been rerouted in the area and University of East London Buses warned its students there was “very heavy traffic” in the area.

It said on social media: “Stratford Broadway is closed in both directions causing very heavy traffic around the area causing our timetable to be running late. Sorry about the delays.”

Four people taken to hospital, says LAS

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were called to the location at 4.04am.

They explained: “We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, a clinical team manager and a paramedic from our tactical response unit.

“We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance, which consisted of a doctor and a paramedic in a car.

“Our first paramedics arrived on scene in less than four minutes.

“We treated four patients and took them to hospital.”

Only one arrested, police clarify

Police have corrected their earlier press release to clarify that only one person has been arrested so far, not far, as reported earlier.

Four arrests have been made, and further urgent enquiries are ongoing, police added.

Road closures and diversions remain in place.

Stratford Broadway – also known as the A11 – is the main road running through Stratford and is currently closed in both directions, having been shut at 4am.
