San Francisco mayor London Breed released a statement on X, giving some details as to what happened when Pearsall was shot. “This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot,” she wrote.

“SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.”

Pearsall, the talented rookie, has not seen much action in preseason or practice as he dealt with a shoulder injury. The wide receiver suffered from shoulder subluxation, which is when the shoulder pops in and out of the socket, thus leading to discomfort.

It appears Pearsall’s injury was not as serious as other cases as the rookie continued to practice. San Francisco’s head coach Kyle Shanahan described Persall’s injury and how it could affect other players as well.

“He did it in college, I think, his junior year,” he said, per NBC Bay Area. “About 50 percent of the people coming out of college do that. That wasn’t really the problem. He did it in OTAs for the first time with us. When you do that, it’s tender.

“Then he redid it here a couple of weeks ago. It makes it tender, so you want to give him time to come back from it. It’s probably happened to 80% of the guys on our team at some time. It’s just a pretty normal thing.”

Drafted No. 31 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Pearsall was slated to be the No. 3 receiver behind Brandon Aiyuk and Samuel in Shanahan’s explosive offense.
