The tense relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William became apparent as they attended their uncle’s wake on Thursday.

The Duke of Sussex travelled back to the UK from America this week to pay tribute to Lord Robert Fellowes, the brother-in-law of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Despite the Prince of Wales also being at the memorial in Snettisham, Norfolk, and standing close to Prince Harry, the brothers did not exchange a single word, it has been claimed.

One mourner told The Sun: “They were only five yards from each other.” At one point the princes were standing “virtually back to back” at the wake but both left separately without seemingly speaking to one another.

Another attendee described the seating arrangements saying: “They were sat two or three rows back from the front, not at the back, but they were on opposite sides of the aisle.”

The vicar who held the funeral reception for Lord Robert Fellowes also said he does not recall seeing the royal brothers speaking to one another.

Reverand Tansey told the Sun: “It was only as I was greeting the congregation on the way out that Prince William was shaking my hand, and then very quickly after Prince Harry did too.”

He commented on the lack of interaction between the two brothers at the reception afterwards, saying: “I don’t recollect them speaking to each other but there were a lot of family members and friends speaking to them.”

After the service, Harry and William both attended the wake in a marquee set up in the garden of widow Lady Jane Fellowes’ home next door to the church and mingled with family and friends, as reported in The Sun. Among the attendees was Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer.

The memorial took place 31 days after the death of Lord Robert Fellowes, 82, who also served as the late Queen’s Private Secretary.

The source explained the service was “well attended” with many family members and friends also wanting to speak to Harry and William.

Harry later left the service, being driven off in a black car. The attendee added: “When we left the reception they were both still there, but as we were on a walk we saw Harry driven off in a black Range Rover.”

The estranged brothers’ joined fellow mourners at Lord Fellowes’ funeral in Norfolk and it was the first time they have appeared in the same room together since May 2023 – for King Charles’s Coronation.

Harry, who now resides in America with his wife and two children, was initially set to miss the service over security concerns but “discreetly” travelled back to the UK to attend alongside William.

Speaking of the service, Reverend Tansey said: “It was a lovely service and there were a lot of people who wanted to be there for someone who was really well-respected in the village.”
