Labour won the General Election in July, and the British public has been not been quiet about the new policies and Budget plans they have enacted so far.

An Ipsos poll released at the beginning of December found that just 26% of people thought Sir Keir Starmer was doing a good job.

Over half of participants, 53%, said they are disappointed with what Labour have done in government so far, while just 19% said they were pleased.

The survey was conducted between November 22nd and 25th and involved 1,092 British adults aged 18-75.

Labour has so far caused controversy with the cutting of the Winter Fuel Payment for millions and plans to increase inheritance tax for farmers.

Key players have also been the subject of scrutiny, with Chancellor Rachel Reeves accused of lying on her CV.

And recent plans to ban the advertising of porridge, cereals and crumpets in a new anti-obesity campaign have been hit by complaints.

Despite winning July’s election, Labour have seen a series of setbacks in the last few months.

Recent by-election defeats and a surge in the polls for Reform UK have shown the country’s mood towards Sir Keir.

A Techne UK tracker poll conducted between December 5th and 6th has shown Reform UK is gaining traction, up three points to 21%.

Labour meanwhile, had gone down by one point to 27%, while the Conservatives sat at 25%.

And the impact of Sir Keir’s leadership has been seen across the country with a by-election on Friday, December 6th seeing Labour lose their Shinfield council ward to the Conservatives.

Labour received just 24.8% of the vote, compared to the 43% of the vote they won the seat with in July.
