Lindsay Hoyle slaps down MPs in Commons
Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle slammed two MPs as “disgraceful” for arriving late to Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.
He kicked off at the pair and told them to “read the room”.
Sir Lindsay shouted: “What are these two members playing at? That is absolutely disgraceful.
“Either come in early or at least wait”.
Soon after, Sir Keir Starmer stumbled in the House of Commons when he mistakenly said the Justice Secretary had resigned rather than the transport secretary.
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch accused the Prime Minister of “obfuscating” and said that he “owes the House an explanation” over what happened to Louise Haigh.
Referring to his comment that Ms Haigh had quit after “further information came forward”, Mrs Badenoch asked: “What was that further information?”
Sir Keir replied: “I am not going to disclose private conversations. Further information came to light, the justice secretary resigned. As I say, what a marked contrast. Whilst she is obsessing with the Westminster issues, we are getting on with fixing the mess, fixing the foundations…”
