Sir Keir Starmer has come under fire from Lee Anderson over the scandal that’s swallowed the Prime Minister and his wife, Lady Starmer.

It has been revealed that the Labour leader has declared more than £107,000 in freebies and gifts since becoming Labour leader in 2019. That’s two-and-a-half times more than any other MP.

The gifts included £40,000 worth of tickets, including to watch Arsenal, the football team he supports, England in the Euros final, and Taylor Swift in concert. Of that £40,000, the Premier League is responsible for more than £12,000.

This comes as the Premier League is lobbying against the introduction of a football regulator. The Football Governance Bill was brought forward by the previous Tory administration and has been picked up by Labour.

Now the outspoken MP for Ashfield Lee Anderson has taken aim at the PM over his penchant for accepting luxury gifts.

The Reform MP said dryly on X: “Cost of living crisis.”

In a hilarious eight-word remark, he joked: “It’s really starting to hit the Starmer household.”

He later added: “Free clothes, glasses, football tickets and now Taylor Swift tickets (twice).

“Do if you’re one of the 10 million pensioners who’ve lost their winter fuel allowance then think on. There’s always someone worse off.”

The ex-Tory MP and Derbyshire miner referenced the £5,000 donation from Lord Alli to Lady Starmer for clothes and personal shopping. Something which the PM initially failed to declare in line with parliamentary rules.

Mr Anderson noted that the row over the PM and his wife’s lavish gifts had come at the same time as Sir Keir and Chancellor Rachel Reeves are under intense scrutiny over their decision to cut the winter fuel payment.

The move, criticised by Tories, Lib Dems, Greens and Reform MPs, could see pensioners across the country put under financial pressure when the time comes to turn on their heating.
