The Toriesare just one point behind Labour months after Sir Keir Starmer‘s election win, new polling shows.

The survey by More in Common puts Labour on 29%, with the Conservatives on 28%.

Sir Keir’s party is down one point from the last poll carried out around a fortnight ago, while the Tories are up two.

Nigel Farage‘s Reform UK, which won five seats at the last election, is third with 19%.

The poll of 2,023 British adults carried out from October 5-7 puts the Lib Dems on 11%, the Greens on 7% and the SNP on 2%.

It is the lowest Labour lead the company has recorded since starting its voting intention polls last year.

The survey is a damning indictment of the Prime Minister’s first 100 days in office.

The Labour Government has faced an ongoing backlash over plans to strip millions of pensioners of winter fuel payments.

At the same time, Sir Keir and other senior Cabinet ministers have been at the centre of a freebies storm which overshadowed the party’s annual conference.

The PM came under fire for accepting tens of thousands of pounds worth of gifts and donations including clothing and glasses.

And in the latest chaos to engulf No 10, Sir Keir’s chief of staff Sue Gray resigned over the weekend following a power struggle.

Number 10 has been plagued by reports of infighting in recent weeks with a row over Ms Gray’s salary after it emerged she was paid more than the PM.

Reports suggest the top aide may have been forced out of 10 Downing Street by male advisers to Sir Keir.

Ms Gray has been replaced as chief of staff by Morgan McSweeney who led Labour’s general election campaign, and with whom she was said to have clashed.
