The Prime Minister broke his silence during a grilling interview on the viral petition demanding a new general election, as a body language expert claims he was hiding his “distress”.

Keir Starmer appeared on ITV’s This Morning following a growing petition calling for another general election – which is now surpassing two million signatures.

The Prime Minister sat down with hosts Cat Deeley and Andi Peters to discuss the petition where he “attempted to put on a brave face” despite being “in shock” over the situation, it has been claimed.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, body language expert Darren Stanton explains that Starmer often finds difficulty in “hiding how he’s feeling” when he “doesn’t know how to respond” to an unexpected question.

When the hosts mentioned him being “as unpopular” as Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, the expert revealed Starmer was filled with “shock” and “couldn’t form an answer”.

Mr Stanton says: “As Andi Peters and Cat Deeley continued to ask a number of questions about the public trusting him, we saw an increase in his blink rate – which tells us he was experiencing an internal shift in his emotions,

“A subtle sign that suggests he is masking his true feelings at this moment. He was trying to put on a brave face, keep going and remain composed, yet increased blinking nods to the distress and unease he is trying to hide.”

The body language expert continued to explain how “Starmer let his guard down” when mentioning his depleting popularity in regards to Farage.

“His facial expressions were filled with shock, astonishment and bewilderment. He had no words. We saw his eyes widening as he was staring blankly at Andi,” says Mr Stanton.

During the interview, the Prime Minister ruled out calling a new election. He said: “I remind myself that very many people didn’t vote Labour at the last election. I’m not surprised that many of them want a re-run, that isn’t how our system works.

“There will be plenty of people who didn’t want us in in the first place. What our focus is on is the decisions that I have to make every day.”
