Sir Keir Starmer’s support among Labour voters has ‘nosedived’ since the general election, according to bombshell new polling published just an hour before his conference speech.

Savanta finds that just 82 days after winning a landslide majority, the PM’s favorability among Labour voters has plummeted.

In late July he was riding high with net favorability of +71 among those who backed him at the ballot box.

However this has now dropped starkly to just +43 today, a fall of 28 points.

Among the general public his support is much more dire. At the election he had net favorability of +15 among the wider public, however it has now dropped to -11 – a fall of 26 points.

This means his support among Labour voters is falling even faster than among the general public, many of whom will be particularly insensed by the cuts to Winter Fuel payments.

His current net favorability of -11 is the lowest level he’s hit since July 2021, when he suffered major local election losses and the Hartlepool by-election.

It was later revealed that he considered resigning as Labour leader at the time, over concerns he was harming the party’s fortunes.

Savanta also records a significant decrease in the level of support for Sir Keir’s policy programme as well as him as an individual.

Just 28% of the public now say they “like both Starmer and his policies”, a drop of 10 points since the election.

Reacting to the damning findings, Savanta’s political research director Chris Hopkins warns he should still be riding high this soon after a major election victory.

Mr Hopkins said: “Our findings really do show the challenge that Keir Starmer faces as he stands up to make his first conference speech as Prime Minister.”

“While he is still relatively popular among his own voters, he has absolutely seen a nosedive in support since the election, which was less than three months ago.

“The cumulative impacts of the summer unrest, the unpopular winter fuel allowance decision and ongoing questions around donations and hospitality appear to have considerably hurt Starmer and his government’s popularity, when they should still be riding high post-election.”
