Sir Keir Starmer is facing a New Year nightmare after suffering an “absolutely stunning” fall in support, analysts have revealed.

Lord Hayward said no new Government has “lost support so quickly and so heavily”.

A YouGov poll, published by The Times, revealed voters see Labour as “incompetent”, “dishonest” and “unsuccessful”.

Most voters also believe he will fail to hit his six milestones.

And Labour has lost 33 out of roughly 150 council seats it has contested across England, Scotland and Wales since the General Election.

Political analyst Lord Hayward told Times Radio: “There’s no precedent in this country for any Government who has lost support so quickly and so heavily.

“Labour were given the benefit of the doubt a bit at the start, but the loss of support in recent weeks has been absolutely stunning.”

Just 21% of voters say they trust Labour the most on the economy, with 24% preferring the Conservatives

Almost one in three (29%) said they had expected more from Labour.

And in a big blow to Sir Keir Starmer, only 12% said Labour has been successful so far.

Just over half describe the government as “incompetent” and “dishonest”, whereas barely a quarter say the opposite.

Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride said: “New Year sees growth gone, inflation up and businesses slashing hiring due to Labour’s tax hikes and their constant talking down of our country.

“Labour’s choices have decimated their inheritance.”
