Sir Keir Starmer has been mocked on social media over his “toe-curlingly awkward” No 10 Christmas lights switch-on.

The Prime Minister stepped outside 10 Downing Street to turn on the lights ahead of his first Christmas in office.

He was joined by wife Lady Victoria, while NHS workers, military personnel and members of the police gathered.

But Sir Keir appeared to be met with silence when he urged them to take part in a countdown with him.

The PM said: “Can you please join me when I say five, four, three, two, one.”

But the Prime Minister was mocked by some on social media platform X over the switch-on.

GB News presenter Patrick Christys wrote on X: “This is just toe-curlingly awkward, isn’t it?”

Fellow GB News host Emily Carver shared a robot emoji and added: “How horribly awkward.”

Ex-BBC journalist Simon McCoy said: “Awks…”

Conservative Home founder Tim Montgomerie said: “Goodness gracious. Lowest ever energy countdown.”

Ed Mcguinness, who was a Tory candidate at the general election, referred to Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and quipped: “This is what all our Christmases will be like after four years of Ed Miliband.”

Commentator Alex Armstrong added: “The charisma and energy of a drying puddle.”
