Vice President Kamala Harris has been reluctant to respond to GOP candidate Donald Trump‘s attack regarding her race and gender. That approach continued in her recent interview with CNN.

Harris and her Vice President pick, Tim Walz, sat down for their first joint interview. The interview revealed that Harris was doing a puzzle when she got the news about Biden dropping out and it also featured Walz saying he “misspoke” regarding his military service.

The interview was with Dana Bash, a long-time journalist with CNN, and Dana asked about Trump’s comments regarding her race.

A few weeks ago, Trump was interviewed at a convention where he said Kamala Harris “turned Black” for political gain.

In response to these remarks, Kamala Harris brushed them to the side.

“Same old tired playbook,” Harris said. “Next question please.”

Bash tried to get an additional response from Harris, asking for a few follow-ups before realizing Harris was not interested in engaging in the conversation.

This is not the first time Harris has used this approach.

On the same day Trump made his remarks, Harris described his comments as “the same old show, the divisiveness and the disrespect.”

“Let me just say, the American people deserve better,” she said.

Trump’s initial remarks sparked a lot of controversy and conversation.

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” the former president said.

Democratic strategists have praised Harris’s response.

Instead of feeding into the attack, Harris would rather talk about her story and her policy ideas, topics that will do more to turn swing voters towards her side.

Her approach has also been successful in the polls, with her surging while Trump is spiraling, making the presidential race very close.
