, the Royal Family has lost three crucial players.

While eager to stay on top of things, the King has been forced to reduce his workload following his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Kate, the Princess of Wales is also undergoing cancer treatment.

, one royal insider said: “The future of the Royal Family doesn’t just hinge on the Wales family. But also on other members of the Royal Family that hold a visible profile in this country and around the world.

“It’s all about building a brand and the family recognises that.”

The nieces of the King, the two Princesses of York have never held an official role within the Royal Family.

Both Beatrice and Eugenie have appeared over the years at family events including Trooping the Colour and the late Queen’s jubilee celebrations.

The daughters of the Duke and Duchess of York earlier this year joined older cousin Price William as he hosted his first garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Beatrice is a graduate of Goldsmith College and holds a bachelor’s degree in History. Before becoming the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at software company Afiniti, she briefly worked at the Foreign Office.

Princess Eugene is a History of Art and English Lit graduate and is currently a director at the art gallery Hauser & Wirth.

Both have extensively worked with charities – Eugenie is the co-founder of the Anti-Slavery Collective while Beatrice is a patron of the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

Lady Louise Windsor and James, the Earl of Wessex

Lady Louise is the only daughter of Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Born in 2003, Lady Louise is currently reading English at the University of St Andrews and while she has accompanied her parents while they were on official duties over the years, she holds no official role at the moment.

She has been tipped to take on a more prominent position when the Prince of William inherits the throne, with expert Danielle Stacey saying: “Lady Louise Windsor is carving out her own career, but she may be one of the cousins the Prince of Wales turns to when he becomes King.

“While it’s not known if she wants to become a full-time working royal like her parents, Lady Louise could represent the monarchy or attend engagements on behalf of William in the future.”

Much like his older sister Louise, James, the Earl of Wessex, 16, has lived most of his life away from the spotlight. His royal appearances have mostly been limited to the late Queen’s official birthday and the traditional Christmas walk at Sandringham.

While entitled to hold HRH titles, neither Louise nor James have ever used the style – with the Duchess of Edinburgh suggesting in the past they would be unlikely to and instead opt for a more private life.

Mia, Lena and Lucas Tindall

The children of King Charles’s niece Zara and her husband Mike Tindall, Mia, 10, Lena, 6, and Lucas, 3, would be an unlikely pick to serve as working royals.

However, Ma is known to be very close to both Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 9, – with the trio often seen playing together at family events.

Their close bond mimics the strong relationship Zara shares with Prince William from a very early age.

Mia and her siblings are currently 22nd, 23rd and 24th in line to the throne and hold no official royal title.

Their parents have been dubbed “the glue of their generation of royals” thanks to their laid-back conduct and the “normality” they bring to royal events.
