Energy firm E.ON has issued a message to customers with a handy potential £50 saving from October 1 if you act now.

The gas and electricity supplier is putting up its variable tariff prices to match the price cap set by energy regulator Ofgem, along with every other energy company such as British Gas, EDFOVO and Octopus.

From October 1, the cost of gas and electricity will increase by £149 for the average household, up from £1,568 to £1,717 per year for those using the typical amount.

E.ON sent a message to customers explaining that Ofgem has increased the price cap prices, but that it does have a tariff available to its customers which is cheaper than the price cap, meaning prices will only increase £99, rather than the full £149.

E.ON said: “Ofgem sets the maximum amount that suppliers can charge for each unit of electricity and gas but not the total bill, so if you use more energy, you will pay more.

Customers on our standard variable tariff, Next Flex, will be sent a letter or email detailing the changes to their unit prices and standing charges for the period of 1 October to 31 December.”

It then informed customers that you can get a fix from E.ON known as the E.On Next Pledge tariff.

This fixed tariff is guaranteed to stay under the price cap by £50, meaning that the price will increase by £99 from the current prices on October 1, rather than the full £149.

It continued: “Suppliers are free to offer fixed tariffs with a different balance of standing charges and unit rates and many do so.

“Standing charges vary by supplier, where you live, how you pay and what meter you have.

“Did you know that we have a tariff with prices that stay below the energy price cap? Our Next Pledge tariff costs less per unit than the price cap unit rate, whether it goes up or down. With our Next Pledge tariff you’ll get energy prices guaranteed to stay £50 below the Ofgem price cap”
