Donald Trump spoke to supporters in North Carolina behind big panels after being told to stop outdoor events by the Secret Service.
Donald Trump held a rally behind bullet proof glass
Donald Trump has held his first rally behind bullet proof glass after he was nearly killed in an assassination attempt – but he kept standing to the side of it.
Trump was looking to bounce back from a sluggish performance on Tuesday where he sounded ‘exhausted’ after being ripped into by President Obama at the DNC.
The 78-year-old, who allegedly labelled his supporters ‘basement dwellers’ in private, had increased security measures as he delivered remarks on National Security in Asheboro, North Carolina.
But defiant Trump has decided to continue speaking to his supporters outside, while standing behind huge panels.
At a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania last month, Trump spoke about the changes that would be made to his outdoor events.
“They’d prefer that we be in an arena. I don’t know why. But we’re not giving up the outdoor rallies,” he claimed.
“You know, all those people that we had to turn away today, at an outdoor rally you can have.”
It comes after Trumps was slammed for seeming ‘tired, incoherent and sleepy’ on Tuesday when delivering a speech about crime and safety in Detroit’s northwest.
Speaking at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Howell, Trump accused Harris of not doing enough to tackle crime.
“You can’t walk across the street to get a loaf of bread, you get shot, you get mugged, you get raped…it’s time for a change,” he said.
But viewers were distracted by his low energy performance, as he appeared sluggish and exhausted.
“Does Trump sound off? Like he’s tired, he’s not his usual self,” one person wrote.
Another added: “It’s the second straight day where a sedated-sounding Trump has been ranting incoherently at an event (this time in Howell, Michigan) while people are forced to stand behind him for way too long.”
