Angela Rayner freebies exposed from £945 of dresses to Manchester United tickets! B
EXCLUSIVE: Analysis of gifts received by MPs has revealed more of the treats accepted by the Deputy Prime Minister.
Angela Rayner’s freebies have raised eyebrows given she had criticised Tory ‘sleaze’
Angela Rayner was given 11 dresses worth almost £1,000 and hospitality for a Manchester United vs Liverpool game for free, Parliamentary records seen by the Express show.
Gifts enjoyed by senior MPs are being scrutinised after scores of Labour MP’s, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, were revealed to have accepted tens of thousands of pounds of corporate hospitality, foreign travel and clothing.
The row has rumbled on for weeks with Starmer at first refusing to apologise but then repaying £6,000 to cover some of the freebies he’d accepted.
Deputy PM Angela Rayner also became embroiled in the row after it emerged she’d borrowed serial Labour donor Lord Alli’s New York apartment over the new year for a five-night personal holiday and was given clothing worth £2,230 from luxury brand ME+EM.
Analysis of records for MPs’ declared interests by the Express shows that American fashion brand Adrianna Papell also gifted the Deputy Prime Minister 11 dresses with a total value of £945 back in 2022.
The US firm donates dresses each year “to help elevate women’s independence and success” and describes itself as “the style destination for every woman and for every occasion.”
Adrianna Papell also claims that “wearing our dresses and jumpsuits is a sure way to make an entrance and feel like a million bucks”.
Records also show Rayner was treated to two hospitality tickets from the Manchester United Foundation to a game between Manchester United Legends and Liverpool Legends at Old Trafford, worth a total of £400.
This was in addition to union Unison paying for her to attend an unnamed conference for £248.79 and NASUWT, the teachers’ union, paying for her to spend two nights at the Durham Miners’ Gala worth a total of £390.
Despite being only two years old, these gifs are not visible on the most recent records for the Deputy Prime Minister because of the way MPs submit information.
They were only uncovered when the Express’s data team took a deep dive into the hospitality Labour’s leadership has enjoyed.
The reason is that the Register of Members’ Financial Interests publishes the register of MPs’ gifts on a rolling basis every two weeks while Parliament is in session. However, registered gifts, trips and donations only remain on this list for 12 months.
Expenses that fall within the parliamentary session appear in the final pdf versions of that year at the top of each page, but those which fall outside the dates MPs are in Westminster often don’t appear.
You can only find Rayner’s 2022 gifts by carefully examining the oldest parts of the archive for that year.
