Barack Obama did not hold back in his roasting of Donald Trump during an impassioned speech on night two of the Democratic National Convention
Day Two Of The 2024 Democratic National Convention saw Barack Obama give a passionate speech endorsing Kamala Harris
Barack Obama didn’t mince his words as he took a swipe at Donald Trump during a fiery speech on the second night of the Democratic National Convention.
The ex-President underscored the draining impact of Trump’s behaviour, using it as proof that America is in need of a superior candidate, specifically Kamala Harris.
“It has been a constant stream of gripes and grievances that’s been getting worse now that he’s afraid of losing to Kamala,” Obama quipped, prompting laughter during his DNC address.
“There’s the childish nicknames, the crazy conspiracy theories, this weird obsession with crowd sizes,” he continued, gesturing with both hands. “It just goes on and on and on.”
“The other day I heard someone compare Trump to the neighbour who incessantly runs his leaf blower outside your window every minute of every day,” Obama added, reports the Express US.
During his speech, Barack Obama couldn’t help but take a dig at ‘whining’ Donald Trump
Obama delivered his speech at Chicago’s United Center shortly after his wife Michelle also made a compelling argument for Harris to ascend to the Oval Office.
The impassioned speeches from two of the Democratic Party’s most prominent figures highlighted the critical nature of the current situation as Harris strives to unite a diverse coalition in her quest to oust Trump this autumn. She is leveraging support from stars like the Obamas and other celebrities, officials spanning from the far left to the centre, and even some Republicans to bolster her campaign.
The evening’s theme was “a bold vision for America’s future,” yet it was the deep-seated determination to block a second Trump term that united Harris’ diverse supporters more than anything.
Just before the Obamas took the stage, Harris spoke to an estimated 15,000 individuals in Wisconsina key battleground statedeclaring her campaign to be “a people-powered campaign.”
The former president was joined by his wife Michelle Obama at the event
Michelle Obama didn’t hold back in her address, taking aim at Donald Trump with accusations of “ugly, misogynistic, racist lies.”
The former first lady charged at the crowd, saying: “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. See, his limited narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking highly educated successful people who happened to be Black.”
She lambasted Trump for resorting to “ugly, misogynist, racist lies as a substitute for real ideas and solutions that will make people’s lives better.”
Echoes of Barack Obama’s campaign from 16 years prior were noted in Harris’ current bid.
“There’s something wonderfully magical in the air, isn’t there,” she remarked.
“It’s the contagious power of hope. America, hope is making a comeback.”
In a swipe at Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan, she asserted that “only Kamala Harris” truly grasps “the unseen labor and unwavering commitment that has always made America great,”.
Last month, it took a few days for the Obamas to endorse Kamala Harris, but Barack Obama eventually did so in a heartfelt phone call that Harris shared on her campaign’s YouTube channel.
At the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Doug Emhoff, who could become the nation’s first-ever ‘First Gentleman’ if his wife clinches the presidency, opened up about his personal life with Harris. He regaled the audience with tales of their culinary adventures, their initial date, and her distinctive laugh, which has often been the subject of mockery by Republican adversaries.
“You know that laugh. I love that laugh! ” exclaimed Emhoff, to the delight of the crowd. He later remarked on her compassion, saying, “Her empathy is her strength.”
While Democrats gathered at the convention, President Trump was busy rallying support on his weeklong tour of battleground states. During a stop in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday, he stood with local sheriff’s deputies and branded Harris as the “ringleader” of what he described as a “Marxist attack on law enforcement” sweeping the nation.
In a stark warning, Trump proclaimed, “Kamala Harris will deliver crime, chaos, destruction and death,” painting a grim picture of an America with Harris at the helm.
